F. Reg Albritton, PhD, CVE, CRC See Curriculum Vitae
Reg was born, raised, and attended public schools in rural southwest Alabama, an area where farming and forestry are the dominant industries. Growing up in this rural environment, he worked in several family-owned businesses. These included the family farm, a full-service gasoline station, and a gasoline distributorship. Early employment outside the family businesses included work as a daily newspaper carrier, warehouse laborer, and in residential and commercial construction.
After graduating from high school in 1971, Reg studied criminal justice at Jacksonville State University in Alabama and later at Auburn University. Always inquisitive about people's interests and life goals, he changed the focus of his studies from a police science orientation to a human services orientation. Reg graduated from Auburn with a Bachelor of Science degree in rehabilitation services in 1976 with a focus on vocational evaluation. Upon graduation, Reg was employed by Auburn as a vocational evaluator until completing a Master of Education degree in rehabilitation services in 1980. During this time, he provided vocational evaluation and career counseling services to a diverse clientele including those with varying disabilities. Reg left Auburn in 1980 to develop a community-based vocational evaluation services program within the Research and Training Center at Texas Tech University. After completing this project, Reg resigned from Texas Tech to pursue a business opportunity in the private sector. He remained an advisor to the vocational evaluation program at Texas Tech and also was appointed to the South Plains Employment and Training Consortium Advisory Council by the mayor of Lubbock, Texas. During his tenure at Auburn and Texas Tech, Reg was directly involved in completing over 2000 vocational evaluations. In 1984, Reg first entered private sector rehabilitation as a workers' compensation case manager with Paul M. Deutsch and Associates, serving primarily the Tampa Bay area of Florida. Here he was introduced to, what was then, a relatively new, "cutting edge" form of needs assessment called life care planning.
While having served diverse populations as a vocational evaluator, it was Reg's experiences as a case manager serving people with acquired disabilities that resulted in his interest to develop a better understanding of the impact disability has upon future employment outcomes. His doctoral studies at Florida State University focused heavily upon mental health and psychological counseling with an emphasis in career development. In 2005, Reg was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy degree in rehabilitation counseling with a specialty in community transitions for persons with disabilities.
Reg is currently a Certified Vocational Evaluator (CVE) and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC). During his career, he has been employed with the Alabama Department of Youth Services, Auburn University, Texas Tech University Research and Training Center, Paul M. Deutsch and Associates, Nancy Sapp and Associates, Rebound Inc., Florida State University, and Goodwill Industries. He has also held adjunct teaching positions at Thomas University and Florida State University.
Reg has given numerous guest lectures in the vocational rehabilitation programs at Auburn University, Florida A & M University, Florida State University, Texas Tech University, and Thomas University. In addition, he has given presentations to members of professional organizations at national, state, and local conferences and workshops.
Since 1984, Reg has worked extensively in private sector rehabilitation. His private practice has included workers' compensation case management, vocational evaluation services, the provision of comprehensive vocational rehabilitation assessments, and life care planning. Reg has been recognized in federal and state courts as an expert in matters related to employment and vocational rehabilitation and has rendered expert testimony on numerous occasions.
Reg's philosophy as a vocational/career services provider has always been to focus upon the needs and strengths of those he serves. As a vocational rehabilitation services provider, he recognizes the impact the unexpected onset of disability or disruption in one's career can have upon one's quality of life. Reg draws upon his many years of experience as a vocational evaluator and rehabilitation case manager coupled with objective research and current employment/occupational information when forming vocational opinions and career plans.
